Detailed Walkthrough

Two groups - Dunmer slavers and Argonian smugglers - have taken up residence in various locations southeastern Cyrodiil. There are several ways to start this quest:

  • By reading a notice posted in Cheydinhal or Bravil;
  • By running across one of the slaver or smuggler camps (see below);
  • By killing one of the leaders.

The quest itself is pretty open-form: once you find out about the slavers and smugglers, you can work your way into the good graces of one faction or the other by doing various tasks like killing the leaders and freeing slaves.

The slaver encampments are located in Seran Camp, Nayon Camp, Marsh-Punk Camp, and Collapsed Mine. The smuggler bases are in Blood Clot Cave, Deep Cover Cave Drowned Hopes Cave, Gloom Way Cave, and Red Gill Cave. Note that the smugglers and slavers are neutral to you at first (unless you attack them); only when you start taking action against one or both sides do they become hostile.

If you choose to side with the slavers, you'll have to kill off the smuggler leaders: Yeshani (Gloom Way), Kizra (Red Gill), and Eidkee V'shiir (Blood Clot).

If you choose to side with the smugglers, you'll have to free the prisoners in Collapsed Mine and/or Seran Camp, and kill off the leaders: Chief Vandral Lerys (Collapsed Mine) and Chief Derahed Faylu (Marsh-Punk Camp).

Once you've gained the trust of one side or the other, you can buy and sell items to them.

10 A Cheydinhal warning has been issued recently. It draws attention to the growing black market slave trade, a result of Vvardenfell's ban on slavery, in the eastern and southern areas of Cyrodiil. Dunmer Slavers have been sighted in these marshlands and forests. The militias of Cheydinhal and Bravil are aiding the Imperial Legion in their fight against these outlaws. The marshes and southern lands are home to many Argonian tribes. I suspect that these are the main source from where slavers get their "stock."

Cheydinhal's authorities have also given a warning about the growing black market slavery. Clearly, Kizra's intervention had its intended effect through her contacts in these towns. The militias of Cheydinhal and Bravil are aiding the Imperial Legion in their fight against the slaver outlaws. But, the smugglers were right--the legion will not be able to do much, given their current situation. Finding the slaver camps would give me further insight into how effective the town's opposition may be.

Dunmer Slavers have been sighted in these marshlands and forests. The militias of Cheydinhal and Bravil are aiding the Imperial Legion in their fight against these outlaws. I have spotted some of these Slaver Camps, and it is clear that they are well prepared to fight and capture Argonians who live in the marshlands.
or
Cheydinhal's authorities have also given a warning about the growing black market slavery. They are also fighting it with the help of the Bravil Guard and the Imperial Legion. Apparently their efforts are focused south and east of the Silver River, probably going all the way to the Panther River tributaries, inhabited by many Argonian tribes. I have verified that Slavers have set up camps in these areas. They seem very well prepared for their tasks--Cheydinhal will have a difficult time trying to hunt them so far away.

20 I've read an official message to the people of Bravil. It draws attention to the growing black market slave trade, a result of Vvardenfell's ban on slavery, in the eastern and southern areas of Cyrodiil. They probably found out thanks to Kizra's contacts here. I have verified that Dunmer Slavers have set encampments in the eastern regions of Cyrodiil. The authorities of Bravil, Cheydinhal and the Imperial Legion have decreed that action against the slavers will not be punished. Bait to lure extra muscle here.

Bravil's authorities have also given a warning about the growing black market slavery. They are indeed, as I have read, fighting it with the help of the Cheydinhal Militia and the Imperial Legion--Kizra managed to alert both towns. The lands east of Bravil are exactly those mentioned by Andel Indarys in his announcement to Cheydinhal's citizens. But, as the smugglers feared, even a joint attack of the town's militias may not be able to dislodge them for long. I should look out myself for a camp to get more insight.

The Slavers seem well prepared--I doubt that the town's efforts will be successful quickly, having to tread such dangers so far from civilization.

30 I have discovered another group of Dunmer Slavers. They have taken shelter at Marsh-Punk Camp, probably under orders from Derahed Faylu. This looks like a place where to find relevant information about their activities. I should inspect their camp--and also nearby towns. It is possible that their authorities, after being alerted by Kizra, have gathered intelligence on the slaver's operations.

I have discovered a group of Dunmer Slavers at Marsh-Punk Camp led by Derahed Faylu. This is surprising. I have discovered another group of Dunmer Slavers, this time at Marsh-Punk Camp. It appears to be led by Derahed Faylu. This looks like a place where to find relevant information about their activities. Still, I should also investigate nearby towns. An operation this large simply can't have gone unnoticed.

40 While inspecting Marsh-Punk Camp, I found a logbook that chronicles the slavers' arrival to these lands. It also notes important information, including locations of strong Argonian resistance, details about other slaver camps and even names of other important players in this enterprise and struggle: Kizra, Surah and Lerys, of whom I've already learned. From what I read, I can confirm that the slavers are suspicious of all strangers, and they would only react favorably should the Argonian resistance be thinned out.

50 I have discovered a group of Dunmer Slavers, even with a prisoner pen, at Seran Camp. Clearly, the slavers are well settled in these areas. This must be one of their main points of operations. Should something go "wrong" here, it would deal a serious blow to their organisation. That is precisely why Kizra's smugglers organized an attack against it. Despite having gotten word out to the legion and nearby towns, the Argonians' position is not much better--I wonder how the local authorities are reacting in response.

60 While exploring inside Collapsed Mine, I found a prisoner pen holding several Argonian slaves. This cavern confirms that the Dunmer's slavery operation is very large and well organized. Clearly, this hideout must be of great importance to the slavers. I have already found information about this place. Lerys mentions slave shipments in his logbook, which obviously must come from here--a crucial asset to the Slavers and a target for the Argonians. I wonder what the town's authorities have to say about this.

70 I have read a logbook from Vandral Lerys, the leader of this slaver base. Quite a charmer, this Lerys. Other than noting a few Argonian hideouts and names, the logbook is not very informative as to how the operation is run. Looks like Lerys expects to conduct it as if it were "business as usual," despite the ban of slavery in Vvandenfell. He does, however, mention Derahed, another leader of Slavers and shipments of slaves from Seran. Rough bunch, it would take some fighting to make friends around here.
80 I have discovered another group of slavers. They have taken over Nayon Camp--their markings are everywhere. The magnitude of the slavery campaign in these marshes appears, at every step, even larger than before. Logically, its effects must have rippled far and wide--no doubt to nearby towns and to Argonians' ancestral lairs in eastern Cyrodiil. The towns already know about this, but it is not clear that they realize how far slave-trade has developed.

90 I read Master Lerys' orders to a Slaver contingent at Nayon Camp. From what I read about the Argonian smugglers and Kizra's mission, they are fighting back and have attacked the slavers at Seran. Lerys instructs these slavers to raid their way to Seran and then again on their way back to Nayon. I suspect that the Argonians will not yield their strongholds so easily, even though the slavers seem well prepared for fighting and are clearly constituted as independent parties with a common tactical organization.

110 I have found Kizra's lair. It appears that it has not been used in some time. Clearly, an Argonian of importance around here, given how the small cave is stocked with tools, furniture and a bedroll. It does not appear like much, but to these frugal Argonians it is a sign of distinction.

They were out for her blood because of an Argonian attack at the slaver encampment of Seran.

This also explains why the small cave is stocked with tools, furniture and a bedroll. It does not appear like much, but to these frugal Argonians it is a sign of distinction. And indeed of importance to the slavers too. They are out for her blood. They blame her for an Argonian attack at the slaver encampment of Seran.

120 This cavern is fully stocked with what look like smuggling supplies. Quite a room, considering how frugally these Argonians appear to live. Eidkee V'shiir is the boss around here, no doubt. Perhaps one of the highest-ranking members of the Blackmarsh tribes. An important asset to them and their livelihood.

The place appears gloomy however, almost as if it missed a familiar presence. Perhaps one of the highest-ranking members of the Black Marsh tribes used this as a base of operation. The location would fit such a character. Maybe the slavers have finally been able to get all the way here and take care of Eidkee, who I infer was the leader of this group of Argonians.

This cavern is fully stocked with what look like smuggling supplies. Quite a room, considering how frugally these Argonians appear to live. Eidkee V'shiir is the boss around here, no doubt. Perhaps one of the highest-ranking members of the Black Marsh tribes. An important asset to them and their livelihood, but also a great target for Dunmer slavers.

130 I have read Yeshani's logbook. It contains a list of important dates and contraband shipments. Its most recent entries are interesting because they chronicle the arrival of the slavers to Black Marsh. Yeshani mentions Eidkee and Kizra, of whom I have already learned. Yeshani's wisdom is apparent in these writings--she convinced Eidkee to accept strangers' help, should they prove themselves first, in exchange for contraband goods, because she knew that they cannot rely on the Legion to fight against the slavers.

140 I found a message from Eidkee to Kizra in Red Gill. He asked that a group of smugglers from Kizra's lair attack the slaver encampment at Seran and free its imprisoned Argonian kin. He also wanted Kizra to use her contacts to alert the legion about the slavers' arrival, even if he does not trust that they would be able to help much, given their current situation. This is why he suggested Kizra to make use of strangers provided that they prove their loyalty. Fighting slavers would be a first step in gaining their trust.
150 I read Eidkee's inventory log at Blood Clot. The volume of goods moved from this lair is impressive. Eidkee mentions other already familiar names: Yeshani and Kizra. It is clear that they have resorted to solve the problem by themselves. Even though they are proud and secretive, this writing further confirms that they now entertain the idea of accepting strangers' help against the slavers. Yet, trust will not be easily gained unless loyalty to their cause is proven first--freeing slaved Argonians may be a good start.

160 I have opened the prisoner's pen at Seran Camp. The Argonian captives flee towards safety. If I want them to live through this, then I must escort them in their escape. The slavers will not take kindly to my action and will try to stop me.
170 The prisoners of Seran Camp are now safe. My deed will cause a stir in these factions, more so since I already freed the captives of Collapsed Mine. The slavers that recognize me will probably try to kill me but the smugglers will regard me with even more respect than before--I may have earned their trust, and certainly will be now welcome in both their northern and southern Blackwood hideouts.

The prisoners of Seran Camp are now safe. This deed will not go unnoticed by either faction. The slavers will regard me with suspicion, if not outright hostility, while the smugglers will more kindly look upon me from now onwards--perhaps I will now be welcome by the Argonians in nearby lairs, for they are more likely to know of my actions than those in the northern fringes of the Blackwood.

180 I have opened the prisoner's pen at Collapsed Mine. The Argonian captives are taking their chances to escape this deep dungeon. It will be difficult for them to leave unharmed if the slavers try to stop us--with this action I have instantly made enemies of any slaver left in this place. I should escort the fleeing Argonians to safety, all the way to their hideout, if I want them to live through this.

200 My attack has meant the death of Yeshani. The Argonians of Blackwood will hold me accountable for the death of one of their leaders. I expect that the slavers will be glad to know about her demise, however. This deed may help them trust me.

210 I have caused the death of Kizra. Her demise will greatly upset the Argonians of Blackwood. On the other hand, the Dunmer slavers will receive the news with satisfaction. Perhaps her death will earn me their trust.

220 Eidkee is now dead. This will shake the ranks of the Argonian smugglers, for he was a figure of great importance among them. The slavers no doubt will be very pleased with the news of his death, however. This move may convince them of where my allegiances lie, considering that I already have dispatched Yeshani and Kizra, the other important leaders of the Argonians in Blackwood.

230 I have caused the death of Derahed. This act will not please the Dunmer slavers. After also having meant the death of Lerys, they are bound to hate me. But her death means good news for the Argonians of Blackwood. My deed will be favorably regarded by them.

I have caused the death of Derahed. This act will not please the Dunmer slavers. Should I be recognized, I will be coldly regarded, if not attacked on sight. But her death means good news for the Argonians of Blackwood. They may now regard me more highly than before.

240 Vandral Lerys is dead. This act will greatly upset the Dunmer slavers. Being also responsible for the death of Derahed, they are bound to hate me. But his death means good news for the Argonians of Blackwood. They will be pleased at his demise and will look favorably upon me.

241 Finishes quest I appears that I have proven my worth to the Argonian smuggler tribes. They are now willing to trade with me directly from their contraband. I am bound to find quite special items from their stocks that are probably not available in any other trader in Cyrodiil.

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
