26 September 1998 THE ELDER SCROLLS NEWSLETTER Issue 1 Important NOTE: This first issue is being released far later and is much shorter than originally intended due to unforseen events. The death of mouse, me being away/busy, a hard drive crash, etc... kept putting everything back. All that is included now is just some of the latest Elder Scrolls related news. The next issue, sometime in October, should be a little 'beefier' (crosses fingers). Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Latest News of The Elder Scrolls Community From your loveable news guy, Lord Ravana Some new stuff added by Dave Humphrey ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **CONTENTS** 1. Mouse.igalaxy.net is down! 2. Avault Redguard Feature 3. Redguard FAQ and More! 4. Bethesda Finger/.plan? 5. Other Stuff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MOUSE.IGALAXY.NET IS DOWN! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ mouse.igalxy.net, a place that hosted mainly Elder Scrolls sites has been shut down permanently. Among those sites were TES: The Essential Site (!), The Hall of Adventurers, and The Elder Scrolls Lair. Here is what happened: Awhile back, softwind, the owner of mouse, met a guy named Tim who wanted to start his own ISP. So she said "Okay, go here, talk to him, do this and that", and basicly did him a bunch of favors. I don't know the whole story really, but the guy got a bunch of money and somehow got ahold of Igalaxy. He saw mouse and decided it wasn't worth having (or something) and deleted it without giving anybody full notice. Luckily, softwind was able to back up all of the sites. Now this guy will only put it back up if softwind pays him $350 a month, which won't happen. I don't know who this guy is or why he did this, but if I could smack him I would. :) So? What now? Well, the Hall of Adventurers has moved over to http://square.simplenet.com/hoa/ but still doesn't have CGI and SkeletonM doesn't have e-mail (He used mouse for that). The IRC server has moved to dragonfire.esper.net for now. There is also a Bethesda server at irc.elderscrolls.com but there isn't much there. TES: The Essential Site is not up right now, but check my site for updates on this situation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ AVAULT REDGUARD FEATURE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Adreniline Vault (http://www.avault.com) has a massive Redguard feature which can be found at http://www.avault.com/featured/redguard. The feature includes interviews, 60 screenshots, a 23 meg movie (which rocks), and excerpts from the pocket guide to tamriel. This is no doubt the best preview yet, so you must see it! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ REDGUARD FAQ AND MORE! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The official redguard site at http://redguard.elderscrolls.com has been updated alot recently. They have a forum, a FAQ, and a section called "The Insider" where each week they interview somebody on the redguard team. It is very cool, another must see. Keep checking back there for updates. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BETHESDA FINGER/.PLAN? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Awhile back, GT, a Bethesda artist, suggested that they have a Bethesda finger or .plan for all the people that develop the games there. Kind of like all the Quake sites and stuff have. I think this is a great idea, and hopefully GT can convince those people at Bethesda to get one. Update: The finger plan has gone through and can be found on the main page at http://www.bethsoft.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OTHER STUFF... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And in Misc. news... 1. The Release date for Redguard is around October 15th (at the earliest) 2. Hardboiled (GT's Site) has moved to http://members.xoom.com/elderscrolls 3. There is a poll about morrowind at The BattleRealm (http://www.warzone.com/elderscrolls). Please vote in it if you will! 4. For those who are wondering, The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages hasn't gone down or anything even though I haven't updated in more than a month. For two weeks in August I was away/moving (twice!) and otherwise terribly involved. Then, I found I could no longer access the sites FTP meaning I couldn't update files (a tech guy at honesty is working on it). To kick we while I'm down, while installing a new hard drive I lost _all_ of my Elder Scrolls related files (Daggerfall, Battlespire, newsletter articles, and the image of the UESP site). I have backups of save games and other important files but it will still take some time to recover 100% and hence a longer dealy. I am working on a large update and hope to be able to upload it soon. Stay tuned...thanks. ....And some useful links: The BattleRealm -- http://www.warzone.com/elderscrolls -- My site! Go there dammit!
