House Baelborne are a significant Breton noble family from Glenumbra.[1] They at one point occupied their estate of Baelborne Rock, located in northeast of the city of Daggerfall.

The noble Maurice Baelborne fell in love with a peasant girl, Claudie Themond. Upon learning of their relationship, Maurice's mother had Claudie whipped and locked up in their tower, and Maurice refused to acknowledge his lover. Wanting revenge and wanting to save her future child, Claudie called to anyone that would acknowledge her plight. A daedra answered the call and cursed Baelborne Rock, and claimed Claudie's child, Stefan. Any Baelbornes that attempted to reclaim the estate would be eliminated, and Baelborne Rock would become a source of spooky legends.[2]

Circa 2E 542, Athel Baelborne attempted to reclaim the estate of his father Maurice, and he enlisted the help of an adventurer. This attracted the attention of Claudie and the dremora Tachnim, who sought to keep the curse in place. During this time, the child of Claudie and Maurice, Stefan, went under the name Tsiniuc, and was instrumental in the resolution at hand. It is unknown if the adventurer aided Athel and lifted the curse on the estate, or if the adventurer kept the curse in place.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Notes[edit]

  • In 3E 405, there was a village in modern-day Shalgora called Baelborne, which notably housed a Temple of Stendarr, one of two in the whole region. Whether it has anything to do with the family is unknown.[10]
