Morrowind:Lights
This is a list of all portable light sources in the game. These can be used to light your way in dark areas (at the expense of carrying a shield or 2-handed weapon), or you can use them to decorate your home. Lights have a limited duration, but only when carried. A light placed in the world will stay lit forever if it isn't already burnt out. Some lights have the word "off" in their ID. These lights (and a few others) will not provide light when placed in the world, only when carried. Lights will not function underwater, and carrying a light with you into the water will automatically extinguish it and remove it from your inventory. Likewise, if a light you carry burns out, it will also automatically be extinguished and removed from your inventory. While accessing a container, any carried light will be temporarily extinguished, but will re-light unchanged when you exit the container menu.

Notes[edit]
- NPCs will not equip (and will de-equip) torches and other light sources during certain weather conditions: rain, thunder, and blight storm. The Bloodmoon expansion adds two more: snow and blizzard. These conditions have no effect on the player's light sources, though perhaps they were originally intended to.
- A Light spell is an alternative to portable sources of light.
Light Stats[edit]

Infinite Lights[edit]
Most lights will go out after being held for a while. But there are a few types which will last forever, unless you got into shoulder-deep or deeper water while equipped, which you should avoid since some of these are quite rare or unique. They are listed below.
Pilgrim's Lantern[edit]
While not strictly "infinite", the duration of 999999999 seconds means that it will last for almost 32 years, which should be good enough. Plus, the Pilgrim's lantern has a radius of 256, twice that of any the other "infinite" lights. Only the Watchman's Eye has a bigger radius.
- Ebonheart, Underground Caves (on a rock in a high alcove above the chamber where you find Furius Acilius. You'll have to levitate to get to it.)
- West Gash (-10,17) Just northwest of Khuul and north of Ashalmawia, located on a small island next to a bedroll and campfire by the coast. The campfire is visible from the docks in Khuul.
Bug Lamp[edit]
The Bug Lamp comes in three varieties. There are 128 radius and 64 radius lights, and also an "off" variety, which is basically useless. Bug Lamps also have the benefit of being weightless.
- Ravel Ancestral Tomb (on sarcophagus in the first room)
- Sadryon Ancestral Tomb (on sarcophagus in room left of entrance)
- Sandus Ancestral Tomb (on sarcophagus in room with two ash pits)
- Tower of Fyr, Hall of Fyr (on table in room to the right of the entrance; owned by Divayth Fyr)
- Ebonheart, East Empire Company Hall (in room with J'Zhirr and Okan-Shei, on table next to Okan-Shei - owned by J'Zhirr)
- Tel Uvirith, Tower Lower (on bookshelf in upstairs room - owned by Telvanni faction, yours if you are Oathman or higher)
- Telvayn Ancestral Tomb (on small table in the last room)
- Vivec, Redoran Vaults (on table in Beldrose Dralor's room - owned by Beldrose)
- Vivec, St. Olms Waist South-Two (on shelf - owned by Dalvus Helothran, who lives there)
Iron Candlestick[edit]
Like Bug Lamps, these also come in three varieties, 128 radius, 64 radius, and "off". They are also weightless as well. These are far more common (particularly the 64 radius variety), so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.

Silver Candlestick[edit]
There are many varieties of Silver Candlestick, but only one type which is infinite. It is not weightless (actually 4 units, heavy for a light), and only has a 64 radius. It looks just like many other Silver Candlesticks, so it can be hard to distinguish them. They have a single red candle which gives off a standard orange light. Other candles that look like this are either dead already or give a red light, so that's how you can tell. There are only two in the game, however.
- Pelagiad, Fort Pelagiad (on a stone table next to some bread – owned by Angoril)
- Seyda Neen, Census and Excise Office (in the first room where you get your class and such assigned – If you take it and drop it before the guard reaches you at the beginning, you can then pick it up again with no consequences. After that, it's owned by "a shady smuggler".)
Bugs[edit]
- If you use the Console command
player->AddItem, "light_de_lantern_12", 1
orplayer->AddItem, "light_de_lantern_13", 1
, you will get an invisible lantern that is auto-equipped and always on. You won't find it in your inventory, but it will still create light even if you are using a shield or casting a spell, and whether your immediate environment is dark or not. You cannot extinguish these glitched lanterns by going underwater, and they create a garish, choppy lighting effect even in broad daylight.- If you already have one of these, you can use the Console command
player->RemoveItem, "light_de_lantern_12", 1
orplayer->RemoveItem, "light_de_lantern_13", 1
, respectively, to get rid of it. - Using the command
player->AddItem, "light_de_lantern_03", 1
gives the same effect, as doesplayer->Additem, "light_de_candle_02", 1.
- If you already have one of these, you can use the Console command
