Ceporah Tower

The Ceporah Tower is an ancient structure on the Isle of Artaeum, an island originally in the Summerset Archipelago.[1] The Tower serves as the headquarters of the monastic Psijic Order, who call Artaeum home.[2] While parts of the Tower were constructed by the Psijics, its foundations are far older, having an entirely unique architecture, and was built by unknown ancient beings.[3] Directly beneath Ceporah Tower lies the Dreaming Cave, which houses a portal that can be used to travel to any realm of Oblivion and beyond, and is described as the place where all the magicka and other energies in Artaeum pool, like water dripping from a chain,[4] it has been used for this purpose by many, including Sotha Sil—a member of the Dunmer Tribunal—who made a compact with many of the Daedric Princes in the late First Era.[5]

Ceporah Tower, like Artaeum itself, normally resides in a plane outside Nirn where it was transported by the Psijics, it is said that this plane exists in a place harder to reach than even Aetherius or even realms "beyond" it, where even the magic of the Sea Sload can't reach, thus allowing for the Order to research the truths of Aurbis without interruption.[6][4][7] It is said that even the Daedric Princes do not know where the plane where Ceporah Tower resides is located, though the Psijics maintain telepathic contact with certain oracles of the Wyrd to gain information on Tamriel's affairs, and the location can be discerned if one finds such an oracle and traces the connection back to the island itself, even allowing for a portal to it to be opened.[8] It is used by the Psijics in many of their rituals,[1] and is known as the location beneath which Vanus Galerion confronted Mannimarco about the latter's increasing fascination with necromancy and soul-trapping.[9] It was this confrontation that led directly to the founding of the Mages Guild.

Architecture[edit]

The Dreaming Cave

Many of the persistent enchantments in the Ceporah Tower can be modulated by Control Globes if one has the years of experience and delicate touch required.[10] The material the tower is constructed from is unknown but suspected to be coral or something similar.[UOL 1]

History[edit]

The bottom base structure of the tower was already present when Artaeum was first discovered. It is unknown who built it,[3] but it was certainly not the elves,[UOL 1] and is presumed to have been made by ancient beings as it isn't known to match any other ruins found within Summerset.[3] It is possible these beings were the Sload, who were known to inhabit Summeret prior to the Aldmer[11] and lay claim to Summerset.[7] The tower was said to resemble Sload structures,[12] and the oldest ruins on the island are made of coral, suggesting they had inhabited the area long ago.[11]
