Lore:Chosen of Boethiah
The Chosen of Boethiah[1] (sometimes Boethiah's Chosen[1] or the Chosen Ones)[1] was a Dunmeri Cult dedicated to the Daedric Prince Boethiah, with notable influence in Skyrim Province under the leadership of Oviron Salith, a Dunmer wizard of "terrifying power."[1]
History[edit]
Skyrim Civil War[edit]
—A Chosen of Boeithah[1]
Circa 4E 201, a small party of Blades that survived the Thalmor purges after the White-Gold Concordat, the Sheathed Blades, are called out of hiding to address the threat posed by an uprising conspiracy in the land.[1] A preacher named Tiresi Dreelo of Boethiah's Chosen had been visiting the lords and serfs of Skyrim, attempting to begin a war between the Empire and the Nords.[1] After investigating further, the Sheathed Blades decide they need to warn the High King and visit his palace in Solitude, however they are delayed by Dunmer cultists in robes that block the way (one of the Dunmer is named Taven Rathis), and by the time they reach Torygg, Ulfric Stormcloak had been there standing over the High King's corpse.[1]
The Chosen of Boethiah were a vast conspiracy operating across all of Skyrim Province. Their secret plan was to promote dissent and violence across the Nord homeland by purposefully stoking the flames of Civil War between the Imperials and Stormcloaks.[1] Should their plans should succeed, they attain more and more positions of responsibility all over the province.[1] The leader of the Chosen, High Priest Oviron Salith, was an influential member of Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak's court within Windhelm.[1] The Chosen had their own hidden temple within that city. In one series of events, their temple is destroyed by the Sheathed Blades, and the Chosen go out into the land, now more active than ever before.[1]
The Sheathed Blades are forced to pick a side in the war.[1] They eventually track down Taven Rathis, and interrogated her on the cult's plans.[1] In one instance, they were forced to chase her down during the Siege of Whiterun.[1] In another, they fetch their information by facing down the son of an Orcish chief named Bazga, after winning, the Orcish Chief reveals what he knows about the cult.[1]
[edit]
After further and further investigation, the Sheathed Blades tracked down the leader of the Chosen to the cave of Monahven, the great mountain also known as the Throat of the World. There, High Priest Oviron Salith had another secret temple, which was host to his most loyal followers and a portal leading to Attribution's Share, the Realm of Boethiah. When the Sheathed Blades arrive, Oviron jumps through the portal, and the Blades may choose to follow after.[1]
After following Salith into Oblivion, the Sheathed Blades are subject to the whims of Boethiah. For hundreds of years, utterly lost in the plane, they hunt Ovirion Salith. They die dozens of times, but somehow come back to life, again and again. Nightmarish creatures swallow them whole. Before, Boethiah finally unleashes them from her realm, and sends them back to Tamriel to execute her errands.[1]
The Chosen Ones[edit]
Back to present day, Oviron Salith and the Sheathed Blades return to Tamriel. At this time, Prince Boethiah brings forth a countless number of people to Tamriel from Attribution's Share, whom she calls her Chosen Ones.[1] Each of her Chosen are being haunted by and mentally manipulated by the Prince, forced to listen to her and do her bidding, with the only way to escape this life is by ending their own.[1] Her ultimate plan is to control all of Tamriel, beginning with Skyrim; spreading dissent and chaos and rebellion in all quarters.[1] Following his release from Boethiah's Plane, Oviron thought to turn against Boethiah, and invited his nemeses, the Sheathed Blades to join him in this.[1] The fate of Oviron, the Sheathed Blades, and the Chosen of Boethiah cult, is ultimately unknown.
