The Imperial Treasury is an Imperial institution relating to the gold-handling of the Empire. The establishment deals in such areas as budgeting, taxation,[1] expenditures, and collections.[2] The term 'imperial treasury' can also refer to stashes of Imperial treasure unrelated to the government of the Empire.[3] Jagar Tharn, in his time as Imperial Battlemage, had access to the treasury.[4]

History[edit]

Circa 2E 283, Akaviri Potentate Versidue-Shaie faced a disintegrating empire fraught with rebellious vassal kingdoms. They refused to pay taxes against the Empire and led sorties against Imperial garrisons across Tamriel. At the destruction of his fortress in Dawnstar, he gathered the Imperial Council in what would be called the Council of Bardmont, after the town where they met. There, the Potentate declared martial and Imperial law. Fighting thirty-seven years of some of the bloodiest conflicts in Tamriel's history, Versidue-Shaie was forced to empty the Imperial Treasury down, nearly, to the last piece of gold. Despite the loss of the gold and some of his best legions, the Potentate was successful in dispatching all opposing armies in Tamriel.[5]
