The Knights of the Silver Rose (or simply the Silver Rose)[1] were a Bretonic knightly order from High Rock.[2] Though they were based in the High Rock region of Glenumbra, they were dedicated to keeping all of Tamriel safe from daedric threats.[3] Avid crusaders against evil daedra, they amassed a vast collection of daedric relics in an attempt to keep them safely locked away from those who would seek to use their powers for ill. The same knights who swore to seal away said relics fell under their corrupting daedric influence, and so the knights wielded the relics they stored in their vaults. The Knights of the Silver Rose justified the usage of daedric artifacts as using the daedra's own power against them. Additionally, they had hopes of one day acquiring the Battlespire.[4] However, they would soon turn to using their power for raiding and pillaging.[5] It is unknown if the corrupted members of this knightly order retained any sliver of their will, or if they were forced to watch as their vessels committed atrocities using the very items they pledged themselves to seal away.[6]

The Knights of the Silver Rose would concentrate their gauntlets at temples to all the Eight Divines to safeguard themselves from any daedric influences when claiming relics on the battlefield.[2] The Daedric Prince Azura was a notable exception to the anti-daedric sentiments of the knights. Some among the order even saw her as a patron deity and made offerings on behalf of the Knights of the Silver Rose.[7]

History[edit]

Circa 2E 87, the Knights of the Silver Rose learning of a daedric incursion, journeyed to the Cyrodiilic settlement of Borderwatch to save it from a clan of Xivilai, overwhelming the daedra who were used to fighting on individual terms.[8]

The Knights of the Silver Rose collected a number of artifacts during their time crusading, notable among them were three Daedric artifacts associated with Daedric Princes. The first was the Groundsplitters, a pair of sabatons associated with Mehrunes Dagon. It was claimed off the corpse of Bargh the Avalanche, who had previously wrecked havoc across High Rock.[9] Another is the Duplici Gladio, a two-handed sword associated with Boethiah. The blade was collected off a refuge fleeing from Cyrodiil into High Rock.[10] The third was the Opal Charm, a necklace associated with Meridia. After ousting Count Geraldi of Daggerfall for his support for the veneration of Meridia, the Opal Charm was discovered within the possession of a group of artists with whom the count offered patronage. The Knights of the Silver Rose acquired these artifacts and stored it in their vaults, where they would not be misused.[11]

By 2E 582, the Knights of the Silver Rose became corrupted by the influence of the various Daedric artifacts they possessed. Knights among the order were granted various artifacts. Eliam Merick was given the Groundsplitters, Liramindrel the Opal Charm, and Ihudir of the order was granted the Duplici Gladio. The knights attempted to fight back against the combined might of the Undaunted and Lyranth the Foolkiller. These champions were slain, and their artifacts were looted by the order's knight-commander, Thierric Sarazen. Despite his usage of several artifacts, he too was slain.[12] The artifacts in the knightly order's vaults were then sacked by the Undaunted.[13]

The significance of the Knights of the Silver Rose allowed them to be documented within the Infinite Archive in Apocrypha. There, copies of them were subsequently created as maligraphies, creatures composed of vivified ink manifested by stories from books, and serve as mindless extensions of the Daedric Lord Tho'at Replicanum.[14][15][16]
