Quintilla (also known as Qizara)[1] was a noblewoman from the early-mid First Era and was married into the Septim Dynasty. Originally from Camlorn, she was married to Emperor Pelagius II and mothered three children, Potema, Cephorus and Magnus. In life, she was a skilled maiden and an accomplished sorceress. As told in the Wolf Queen historical-fiction series written by Waughin Jarth, along with Prince Pelagius, Quintilla saved her kingdom from a great werewolf demon and trapped his soul in a yellow gem necklace.[2][3]

History[edit]

Quintilla was born in the Kingdom of Camlorn and was the daughter of King Vulstaed. The Wolf Queen series described her as the most beautiful princess in all of Tamriel and was an adept and knowledgeable maiden. In 3E 63, Camlorn's city-state was attacked by a great demon werewolf. At that time, the widower Prince Pelagius traveled to the city to court her and found it under siege. Together with his sword and Quintilla's sorcery and mysticism, they defeated the werewolf and had its soul sealed into a gem. Pelagius had it fashioned into a ring and used it to propose to her. A legend persisted however that the wolf's soul would stay with their firstborn child.[2]

In time, Quintilla gave birth to three children, first Potema in 3E 67, Cephorus in 3E 77, and Magnus in 3E 79.[4] In their early years, Quintilla and Pelagius showed little affection for them.[1] Her relationship with Pelagius' only son from his previous marriage, Antiochus was not any better. In the Wolf Queen series, Quintilla is quoted as saying she and Antiochus were never close and that "being heir presumptive has stunted his growth" and "he will not make a very good Emperor". In the same volume, Antiochus calls her "a witch". After Emperor Uriel II's death, Quintilla and her family moved to the Imperial City where Pelagius became Emperor as Pelagius Septim II. When he later passed away in 3E 98, Antiochus took up the throne and Quintilla became the Dowager Empress. During Potema's reign as the Queen of Solitude, Quintilla liked to visit the Blue Palace.[4]

The Wolf Queen series provides a look into her last days before her death. In the Imperial Gardens of the Blue Palace, Quintilla gave her daughter the necklace bearing the yellow soul gem that held the werewolf spirit. It was enchanted with a charm spell from the School of Illusion. She also described a foreboding premonition, fearing the future of the Empire and believed she would die in a few months time, not long before Mantiarco's death in 3E 100.[4] Whether this excerpt from the historical-fiction series is true to the events is unknown. Though Waughin Jarth was known to consult hundreds of contemporary sources for his writings,[5] he wrote his books first as entertainment and focused more on penning Potema's life and ambitions than the little details.[UOL 1]
