Page Title Change?[edit]
Considering that this floating-rock-prison place is repeatedly (exclusively?) referred to as the "Ministry of Truth" in-game, I would like to change the article title to "Ministry of Truth". However, I can't figure out how, since I don't see the title in the stuff available for edit when that option is selected. Therefore, could someone else either change the title, or at least explain how here? Thanks. Bookwyrm1357 (talk) 21:34, 16 December 2014 (GMT)
1984[edit]
The point about Orwell's 1984 needs correcting - The Orwell Ministry of Truth was the propaganda ministry - the Secret Police and torture ministry was the Ministry of Love. — Unsigned comment by 86.136.39.43 (talk)
- Marked as a good question. Rather embarrassingly I haven't read the book in over a decade and don't have a copy with me. Can someone confirm and fix the article please? –Rpeh•T•C•E• 17:58, 4 March 2008 (EST)
Although it functions more like the Ministry of Love, it still seems to be a reference to 1984.
Infernal City[edit]
So the Ministry of Truth (Lore:Fourth Era) is supposed to have destroyed the "much of the island of Vvardenfell" when it fell? I find that a bit hard to believe... 174.103.62.163 03:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- You are asking in the wrong game. The Ministry of Truth is still flying during Morrowind. --Brf 04:12, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
-
- However, you should take it seriously. It wasnt most of Vvardenfell, just the area around Vivec. And this event has been long coming; The Ministry fell, at full velocity, as if it hadnt stopped. This leveled Vivec and re-ignited Dagoth-Ur (Red Mountain, not the villain.) The area where vivec was is now known as the Scathing Bay. This, however, was not the first time we heard that name... Love Letter From the Fifth Era, a note from the future was the first to reference Scathing Bay. This note was found before even Oblivion came out. All we can say for sure is that in 5E911 the scathing bay was STILL boiling. So that area of Vvardenfell, where Vivec was, is going to be completely uninhabitable for at least a thousand years after the events of Infernal City. 74.128.56.194 15:45, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

- These events are not part of Morrowind, and neither is that letter. --Brf 16:30, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

"Vivec Ministry"[edit]
Why is the article called "Vivec Ministry"? I can't find any reference for the name. --Legoless 17:35, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
- Well my uneducated guess would be that it's short for Ministry of Truth. And the "Vivec" part is just what every canton has (e.g. Morrowind:Vivec Temple). It just indicates that the place is a part of Vivec city. I suppose the question here is should the Ministry be considered a separate canton. If it should, then it probably wouldn't hurt to add it to the Morrowind Settlements template. If not it could be renamed to Ministry of Truth (with out the Vivec part). -- kertaw48 19:53, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Strange names[edit]
Anyone have any idea why all the prisoners and several guards have names that don't go with their race? It's like the characters in the Ministry of Truth were made by a completely different people compared to the rest of the game. 178.148.13.115 19:32, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- These names don't fit into any naming convention for the playable races. My guess would be that these are some kind of easter eggs. Probably twisted forms of names of some forum members at Bethesda. -- kertaw48 21:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Notes[edit]
- This rock bears a resemblance with Sanctaphrax, a floating rock from the 'The Edge Chronicles' books. That stone also contains many tunnels, but instead of being stopped in a fall, Sanctaphrax is being stopped from floating away.
- Its name may have been inspired by George Orwell's book, 1984, which describes a ministry with the same name, although its functions differ (see talk).
- I moved these two notes here for two reasons:
- Neither of these information are relevant to either gameplay or lore
- Both are either subjective or speculative ("bears a resemblance", "may have been inspired")
- I've seen some discussion regarding Orwell's work from back in 2008 but, unfortunately, unless there exists an actual resource that explicitly states the inspiration for the Ministry's name, the info remains neither objective nor verifiable Salamangkero 15:41, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- While I do agree about removing the Sanctaphrax thing, the Ministry of Truth is just a common sense reference. I'm quite sure most of the easter eggs are also unconfirmed. I think it should be reinstated, possibly with a firmer claim on the origin of the name. -- kertaw48 15:55, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
The Grand Inquisitor and other Ordinators[edit]
So since the Ordinators are each individually named, can one assume that they won't respawn? As in, if you were to kill them all (not necessarily recommending this, considering how powerful Ordinators tend to be), then you could pretty much "clear" the Ministry of Truth and take it as your own? As impractical as the idea seems, it'd actually be pretty cool to be able to use the Ministry of Truth as a house/stronghold. Bauglir100 (talk) 00:02, 8 February 2015 (GMT)
keys?[edit]
I notice this NPC details table does not yet include notable carried items like keys. I pickpocketed 1 set of keys at least that I remember somewhat. Is there a key that allows the prisoners to 'go free'? The topic appears, but the keys I acquired didn't work for setting them free. Chill fridge (talk) 08:45, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- The people in the bottom of the Prison Keep and in the Holding Cells (other than Mehra Milo) are coded as prisoners, which is why they have the "get me out" dialogue option. After looking in the Construction Set, there doesn't seem to be a key in the Ministry of Truth that will let you free them. You should be able to free them if you can move them to one of three Imperial prisons: Pelagiad, South Wall, Hawkmoth Legion Garrison, and Buckmoth Legion Fort, Prison. You need the Fort Pelagiad Prison Key, Hawkmoth Prison Cell Key, or the Buckmoth Prison Cell Key, respectively.
- Getting them to one of those prisons might be kind of interesting, though. You could use a Command spell, but they may not survive the drop from the Ministry of Truth to the Temple. In theory, you could make and use a "Slowfall on touch" spell on them when you get outside of the Ministry, but if the bug mentioned on the spell page happens, that might not work. I'm pretty sure Mehra Milo's request for a Divine Intervention scroll is a scripted thing; even if you give a Divine Intervention scroll to the other two prisoners, they probably won't use it.
- Using
PositionCell
on them in the console is probably the easiest way to move them to one of the prisons to free them. 69.247.222.163 03:14, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
Minor graphical weirdness on local map[edit]
On the local map, the two oval rooms in the southeast part of the Hall of Processing appear to have long rectangular extensions that extend much further southeast than the door to the outside that is between them. I can't access these areas normally, but if I use the tcl
console command and float through the wall, I can see them. They look like a "slice" of the base of a Dunmer stronghold, complete with the stepped walls on the ends. The console says their ID is ex_stronghold_pylon01
.
This doesn't really affect anything; it just looks strange on the local map. I realize that the designers probably just re-used an existing asset and located it such that only part of it is visible; it forms the floor in those two oval rooms. Also, I am playing under OpenMW 0.46 on a Linux PC, so I'm not sure if morrowind.exe on PC or Xbox renders this the same way. I just thought it was worth noting somewhere.
I have 1.6.1820 (Morrowind + Tribunal + Bloodmoon), bought from GOG in spring 2022, with no other mods installed. 69.247.222.163 01:43, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
