Oblivion talk:Valen Dreth
Valen Dreth does not seem to always be a Dunmer. In my game, (as a male Imperial, if that makes any difference) Dreth is an Altmer. I have also read a guide in which the author describes Dreth as Khajit. — Unsigned comment by 74.192.12.146 (talk)
- Valen Dreth is listed in the construction set as a Dunmer only; normally with NPCs that can be of multiple races, each of the possibilities is listed separately in the construction set then a script or leveled list chooses between them. So I don't see how Valen could be of a different race. How do you know that Valen is an Altmer in your game? Is there any chance that he is just a light-skinned Dunmer who could be mistaken for an Altmer? --Nephele 09:48, 15 December 2006 (EST)

- Is there any such thing as an NPC who appears as multiple different races? I'm quite sure I've never seen that before. It wouldn't fit into the lore in any way, first of all. Yes, if you wanted to make an NPC have 2 different races for some reason, you'd need to make separate entries in the CS. But I'm almost certain that never actually happens in the game. Also, other than maybe a little bit on the face, the skin color is never different from one member of a race to another. (The only thing that can cause a significant difference is Vampirism.) Anyhow, Dreth is quite assuredly a Dunmer, and whoever said he was Khajiit was simply mistaken. Or possibly running a mod that changes his race, though that's unlikely. (Valen Dreth is a very Dunmer-ish name, and not Khajiiti at all. If somebody did mod his race for some reason, you'd think they'd change the name as well.) Anyhow, we don't cover unofficial mods on this site so it doesn't really matter. --TheRealLurlock Talk 01:05, 20 December 2006 (EST)
Yes, I guess that it's possible he is just light skinned. However, that doesn't seem so likely and it still doesn't explain that one person describing him as a Khajit. Though he may simply be non-credible. — Unsigned comment by 74.192.12.146 (talk)
Vallen may be lightly skinned for a dunmer since he does infact hit on the player IF the player is female dunmer.

Corpse in Lake Rumare?[edit]
I've heard Valen Dreth's corpse can be found in Lake Rumare after you execute him, is this true?
- There's no evidence that it's true. It seems to be one of those rumours that refuses to go away. --Rpeh•T•C•E• 01:24, 10 October 2007 (EDT)
- Just for the sake of it, if you cast Command Humanoid and lead him outside, you can kill him and leave his body in Lake Rumare...that's probably what happened. Someone did that and recorded it or just spread the rumor....and yes this is older than my youngest son but who knows who checks the talk page and might be curious =P happy myth-busting this one TVthePunisher 09:12, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
Other dialogue[edit]
It should be noted somewhere how the "fetid piece of Guar dung" dialogue is triggered. 32.156.245.175 18:58, 5 October 2008 (EDT)
- It is one of his responses to your counter-taunts (during the DB Scheduled for Execution quest). However, I wonder if adding that onto an NPC page is too much spoiler-wise... We'd also have to add the rest of the dialogue in that quest. Any ideas? Vesna 22:05, 5 October 2008 (EDT)

- I think it that it should be removed, or that his other quotes from the Dark Brotherhood quest should be included. The "guar dung" one is from either [Say nothing] or [You're going to die in here]. Felindre 13:30, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Kill him earlier[edit]
Is it possible to kill him at the start of the game without the console? -66.41.62.253 18:57, 7 March 2009 (EST)
- Without the console? No. --Darth NANAME 13:32, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Moved Note[edit]
- [Any other unique dialogue if the player makes the Dremora class playable?]
I moved (and restored) this just to give a more define answer. Basically, the dremora race is only added through mods, so you will have to read the mod documentation in order to figure it out. –Elliot talk 00:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- oh.. sorry XD ill have to look into edits more before undoing --Tabloes 00:52, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
/=>I was wrong. But it is not playable on the console. Which is my point. –Elliot talk 07:46, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Dialogue for custom races[edit]
I noticed there is some revamping of NPC pages going on, but I did expect to at least see this mentioned somewhere on Dreth's page since quotes for every standard race and sex is included. But where is the entry for what he says when the player is a custom race? I'm talking about the one where he begins something like (not verbatim) "What ARE you?? I don't believe I've ever seen something like you before here in Cyrodiil." GrimmHatter 05:36, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- The most likely reason is that the site is dedicated to the vanilla games and their official add-ons/plug-ins. Since all mods that introduce a custom race are unofficial, information on their content is excluded. Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 07:12, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- Understood. Though, despite being triggered by non-vanilla material, what Dreth says is itself vanilla. There are other items mentioned on this wiki that are not part of the vanilla game, though they are accessible via mods and the construction set. I don't see why this topic should be any different. GrimmHatter 21:35, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the origional content of the Construction Set is considered part of the game, so everything in it is as well. Even if it wasn't added to the final product, the origional code is still there. That being said, if Dreth already has this line in the CS, some mention of it (along with a comment that some custom race mods use it) should probably be added, though I don't have access to a CS to say whether it's there to begin with or not. As for the mods, most of their content on the site is only located on their pages, while most other mentions of mods tend to be those that fix certain bugs/glitches in the main game and are (again, to the best of my knowledge) only the bigger ones (UOP, Tamriel Rebuilt and the like). The custom race mods tend to be smaller and less prolific than those that are generally referenced. Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 22:01, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Dreth's Bounty[edit]
In the Dark Brotherhood quest that involves him, he tells the guard he's been in the Imperial Prison for eleven YEARS. Considering that the worst offense possible in the game, murder, nets you a bounty of 1000 gold (equivalent to 10 DAYS in prison), it really makes you wonder what exactly did Dreth do to be convicted to such a long time in Prison... Is there any sources about Imperial Law that can make any sense out of this? 187.3.169.35 20:02, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think it's very independent his bounty from the bounty of the player. After all you can't really expect that a single murder only earns you a bounty of 1000 gold or 10 days in prison (at least in reality). --MC• S'drassa •T2M 20:10, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
I just used my calculator to figure out Dreth's bounty. I could be wrong, but by my calculation his bounty must have been somewhere in the order of 401, 500 gold. I wonder what he did? Kitkat1749 20:02, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Probably went on a killing spree to net that bounty, either through the Imperial City or just on a massive rampage. Of course if he had been there eleven years and not executed for that long...maybe he did something so petty they just forgot he was in there. Though I'm sure it's hard to ignore "You're going to die in here", which I'm sure he greeted hundreds if not thousands of characters with in that 11 year span...68.62.150.23 08:31, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Does he exist outside of quests?[edit]
I can't seem to find him in the Bastion. --Admos 02:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. He just sits in his same cell forever...kinda. Nut he is not by the normal prisoners, he is through the other locked door. --DKong27 Talk Cont 02:35, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Possible Note to add to his page? Bound to Cell, Leading through Cyrodiil...etc.[edit]
Since Dreth is such a low level, you can hit him from a bought Command Humanoid (to level 2) spell and get him to leave with you. The thing is, no matter how far you go he is absolutely "bound" to that prison cell, provided you are wearing 100% chameleon (so he doesn't instantly attack you if you mess up) you can just cast it over and over but if you let the effect run off, he'll turn around and take a journey all the way back to that Prison Cell. Should it be worth noting or not? It seems kind of strange...he talks all high and mighty on how he's going to get out and if you actually LET him out (via control spell) he strolls right back to the cell. I haven't tested distance yet, so I'll try Anvil but since he's level 1...anything can kill him rather easily.
Another note is that while you can yield to him in the Prison, he refuses to yield outside anywhere else. It's also impossible to initiate dialogue with him outside of the Prison. And if you want to travel with Dreth, like some sort of RPing thing...make sure to be 100% chameleon because most times as soon as the next area loads he'll attack and chances are, a guard or something will kill him (1-2 arrows most times).
Note for myself but one time as he was on the final bridge just before the Bastion (nearly to the door) I stood at one end with a single arrow in tow, raised my bow and let it fly...turns out it struck him directly in the back of the head and out through his mouth...I bet I can't do that again if I tried ;>_> TVthePunisher 09:10, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- It's not really notable. In a sandbox game you can't anticipate every possible action the player may take, so this kind of oddity crops up in several different areas. rpeh •T•C•E• 10:52, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
Breton dialogue[edit]
His dialogue for Breton players is divided into male and female boxes. Yet AFAIS the text is identical. So why isn't the text entered just once (as for Argonians and Khajit)? If it is because the voice actor actually recorded the same text twice, then that might need a wee bit clarifying. Thx, CapnZapp (talk) 10:32, 14 October 2012 (GMT)
- Read it again, the text is not identical. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 10:42, 14 October 2012 (GMT)
