A Heart Turned Black[edit]

Elder Pitof will have enlisted you to help find his wife Gwenaelle after the Firesong attacked Y'ffre's Path. Gwenaelle is not found among the dead outside, so you and Pitof begin to search the ruins beneath the waterfall.

Within the tunnel, you will soon come across a muse-mouth, a plant that contains a vision from the Chronicle. The vision shows Druid Henyra and the Firesong attacking the Eldertide druids, an orb hangs in the background:

Druid Henyra: "Tell us how to access the Chronicle. Or this is your fate!"
<Druid Henyra stabs one of the Eldertide druids.>
Elder Gwenaelle: "No! How could you?"
<The vision ends.>
Elder Pitof: "Gwenaelle? And the Chronicle? Did you see it, too? The spirit is trying to tell us something."

After coming across the Chronicle which mentally is in a bad state according to Elder Pitoff, you find another muse-mouth. The vision shows Elder Gwenaelle being surrounded by the Firesong lead by Druid Henyra. Again the represenation of the Chronicle is silent in the background:

Druid Henyra: "You refuse to give us Y'ffre's gift? Very well, we will just kill you and take the Chronicle."
Elder Gwenaelle: "We can't just give you the Chronicle. The spirit is bound to this sacred place!"
Druid Henyra: "Then we'll cut the Chronicle from the roots and—what's happening?"
Elder Gwenaelle: "Spirit motes?"
<The Firesong stagger and the vision ends.>
Elder Pitof: "Spirit motes saved Gwenaelle! But why do the Firesong want the Chronicle?"

Eventually you catch up with Elder Gwenaelle but it is not a happy story. You and Elder Pitoff, the surviving Firesong and Elder Gwenaelle walk up the stairs to stand before the Chronicle, being controlled by the Spirit Motes. The Firesong druids' forms twist as they transform into Forest Wraiths:

Elder Pitof: "Those druids, they're transforming into forest wraiths. How is that—"
Elder Pitof: "Gwenaelle? No, not you! Please!"
<Elder Gwenaelle is transformed as well and Elder Pitof falls to his knees in despair.>
Elder Pitof: "Gwen, a forest wraith? No!"

Speaking with Elder Pitoff after this, he decides he must speak to the chronicle and convince it to let her go. When you reach the Chronicle's Chamber, Gwenaelle as a forest wraith will be standing there. But as Elder Pitoff approaches her, the Chronicle blasts him in the chest. He asks you to speak with the Chronicle instead, the spirit is wracked with guilt over what has happened and requests an ending. After you fulfill its wish, it ends and Elder Gwenaelle is transformed back into human form:

Elder Pitof: "Gwenaelle! You're back!"
Elder Gwenaelle: "Pitof? What happened?"
Elder Pitof: "Everything is fine, Gwenaelle. Outsider, come. We owe you so much!"

Speaking with her before Elder Pitoff:

"What happened? Everything is so … unclear."

If you exit out of the conversation with Pitof and before turning in the quest, she will say:

"The Firesong druids…I remember them…threatening me. They killed Eldertide! Why?
I need…to rest…to think about what happened. I just know, somehow, that I have you to thank for my life."

After completing the quest, Pitof and Gwenaelle's conversation will continue:

Elder Gwenaelle: "Did all that really happen? The Firesong … the forest wraiths …?"'
Elder Pitof: "The Chronicle saved you, in its own way."
Elder Gwenaelle: "It was angry. That much I remember. The bloodshed, our friends …."
Elder Pitof: "We'll grieve for them. And for the Chronicle. We lost a lot this day."
Elder Gwenaelle: "The Chronicle is really gone?"
Elder Pitof: "Its final act was to release you, dear Gwen."
Elder Gwenaelle: "What now, husband?"
Elder Pitof: "Now we thank Y'ffre and tell our own stories."

You have the option of speaking with Elder Gwenaelle before leaving:

"The Chronicle was so frightened, so angry at what the Firesong did. It tried to help me, but it was confused. Unsure.
I remember becoming a forest wraith. I'll need to write that down. It's a story that should be remembered."
What was it like, becoming a forest wraith?
"Fast, confusing, but then it was simple. I had a purpose. There wasn't room for fear.
I'm no more murderous now than I was before. But still, it was odd. If Pitof came any closer, I might have hurt him. That will be difficult to forget."
You would have attacked your own husband?
"With the Chronicle influencing my mind? In an instant.
That feeling will stay with me for the rest of my days. Part of me is glad the Chronicle is gone. For all its insight, it didn't understand mortals. I hope I can still be a druid after this."
Why wouldn't you be able to stay a druid?
"My understanding of nature spirits has changed. I don't know if I can treat them with the same respect I did before.
I'll give myself some time to recover and reflect. The shock of everything that happened could be clouding my judgment
[sic]. We'll see."

And Now, Perhaps, Peace[edit]

Elder Pitof and Elder Gwenaelle in All Flags Castle

If you helped Elder Pitof out on Galen previously, he and Gwenaelle will be at the meeting in All Flags Castle:

"I was told this was a celebration, but I think there are too many long faces for that to be true. You'd better give these good folk something to smile about."
How are things going at Y'ffre's Path?
"As well as can be expected. Pitof and I are figuring out what it means to be chroniclers. I mean, without the help of a nature spirit.
And we talked with Druid Laurel. I think we're going to allow druids from the other circles to come help us."

Speaking with her again after talking to Count Stefan Mornard:

"So many people are here, outsiders and druids alike. It … feels good to be among so many new faces."

Speaking with her again after completing the quest:

"That Druid Laurel of the Stonelore Circle, she's trying to get us all to work together. I suppose these peace talks are giving us all ideas."
