Class Skills

ESO is a little different from previous games in that there are skills unique to each class that are inaccessible to other classes. As such, skill books which target specific class skills are not as far as I know possible. I've seen books which will increase ALL THREE of your class skills when you read them, and I believe they do this regardless of class. I'm not sure if there are books which only increase one class skill, or which don't do anything at all if you're the wrong class. I see two on the list indicating the Aedric Spear and Earthen Heart abilities, but I think these are incorrect. That may be true if you're a Templar or Dragonknight, but I think ANY class would see a skill improve from those books. And possibly all three of them. Can't confirm this right now, of course, but we should keep an eye on it. Also, I'm not sure quite what we'll do about the missing links that are breaking the template here - we may need to make an exception for a book which can improve multiple skills, or different skills depending on your character. There's also some books that increase your rank in guilds, which are basically skills themselves. These are another oddity, since the guilds are optional. If you find a Mages Guild book but haven't joined the Mages Guild, do they still work? If so, what happens? We need to do some testing. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:35, 23 March 2014 (GMT)

Actually, I can confirm that there are books which only raise specific skills for specific classes. I have found the same book on two different characters, one raised a skill, a single skill (related to the topic of the book) while on the other character it did nothing. I believe your experience with raising all three skills comes from the fact that you get a tiny bit of XP from reading a book for the first time, regardless of the book, and thus reading it put you over the top and leveled up those three skills. There are no books which level the mages and fighters guild lines because those aren't leveled through basic XP, but rather through specific actions only (finding Shalidor's Library books for the Mages guild and killing Daedra for the fighters guild). There are definitely books which increase your Mages Guild and Fighters Guild ranks. I remember finding History of the Mages Guild and History of the Fighters Guild at the very least do this. Maybe they're the only ones though? — TheRealLurlock (talk) 22:34, 1 April 2014 (GMT)

Are you really sure about that? Because I can't find a History of the Mages Guild book at all. What I think it is that happened, that you found one of the Fighters Guild history books and it raised your Mages Guild rank (happened to me with Monomyth: "Shezarr's Song"). I think all skill raises from reading books that are not marked as Skill Book collection are not really tied to the book, but are coincidental (active skills from gaining xp, mages guild from finding lore books). --Alfwyn (talk) 23:45, 2 April 2014 (GMT)

Some of them are, for sure, related to the books. Any of the non-skill books which raise crafting skills are from the book (you can ONLY gain crafting xp through crafting, so byproduct xp from reading the book for the first time wouldn't raise your crafting skills). Also, you can tell if it's byproduct or not if you get a skill raise in something which you do not use (for me, getting a skill raise of heavy armor is an indication it is from the book, not from byproduct as you only gain xp in stuff you use, not every skill. Templar book

I have no idea how to edit the table, but the templar book "The Friend of All Mortals" can also be found in random bookshelves in Stormhaven (start with mages guild in WayRest which has several book shelves).

Another templar book

"Rituals of the Harmonious Masters" appears to be obtainable from random bookshelves in Rivenspire.

The locations for some books are incorrect

Heavy Armor: A Forge-Wife's Advice is not located in Selfora Temple, Mournhold Fighters Guild, or Stormhold Guild Hall.

Smithing: A Worthy Endeavor is not located in Davon's Watch Mages Guild or Selfora Temple.

Seafood Supper

Sep's Kiss found in the keywrights gallery

I found a copy of Sep's Kiss in the Keywrights Gallery on the Isle of Balfiera during the tutorial quest.
