Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Talk to Neloth in Tel Mithryn.
- Collect an ash sample from the remains of an ash spawn.
- Return to Neloth for your reward.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
After making your way to Tel Mithryn, find and speak to Neloth and ask if you can help out. He will give you an extractor, and ask you to obtain an ash sample from an ash spawn as he is working on a spell to summon them. He will inform you that the ash sample can only be extracted from a dead ash spawn, but remains confident in your ability to "bring it about."
Find and kill any ash spawn. The wall outside Raven Rock should have plenty of ash spawn if you haven't already completed March of the Dead. Note that you can still extract the sample from the remains of an ash spawn killed prior to starting the quest, so if you have recently completed March of the Dead, you'll likely still be able to find their remains outside of the city walls.
Searching the corpse of an ash spawn should bring up the option to use the extractor. After using it, return to Neloth for you reward. The spell tome Conjure Ash Spawn should be available for sale from Talvas Fathryon a day or so after completion of the quest.

- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
