Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

While in Roa Dyr, you'll hear through latest rumors that Eveshi Drilor, a tollmer at the harbor is particularly worried about some trouble in the port. You'll find Eveshi near the Tollmen's Hall entrance down at the dock on the south side of town. She'll express needing assistance with a delicate problem. Under what she calls odd circumstances, Eveshi would like someone to investigate the disappearance of certain items from the ships that have been coming in lately. She suspects that it is the work of a thief, more specifically one of the slaves who unload the cargo, but doesn't know who or why. Eveshi asks you to keep this investigation confidential. When asked why she would protect a thief, she'll try to explain some of the complication of the situation, and wanting the whole picture before it goes public. She'll then give you a list of the stolen items. If asked further, Eveshi suspects the stolen items are nearby and not smuggled out. She'll then suggest searching where an Argonian slave might go, but where a Dunmer wouldn't look.

The Investigation Begins[edit]

When you board the Whispered Tenet, you'll find Milres Uveler, the ship's oveseer. When you bring up the topic, he will bluntly suggest searching the slaves, using the ship's manifest as a cross-reference for possible stolen items. When you ask Eveshi about the manifest, she will give it to you a copy, but will express doubt that it'll help.

You can search the all the dock slaves via the dialog prompt, and Eveshi's doubts will prove to be correct. At this point, there are one of two option. On deck is Ju-Ril, one of the Argonian slaves. With a high enough disposition (75+) he will start to crack, and ask why you wish to know. Answer "I want to help" with either 30+ speechcraft, 100 disposition or as an Argonian. He'll give you a name: Talen-Ei. The other option is to take a cue from what Eveshi said earlier about where the stolen items might be stashed. On the north end of Roa Dyr, near a pack guar, you'll find the entrances to the slave pens built into the side of a hill. To the left is the river. If you follow the river north, sticking to the east bank, you will eventally find some rocks with a sack behind them. Alternatively, you can go around the east side of the hill, wade briefly in the river to get to the hidden sack. In this sack are the missing items from the list Eveshi gave you, as well as a slave market leaflet with a list of names. If you've already talked with all the slaves on the ship, you might recognize one of the names. You now have the option of either confronting Talen-Ei, or reporting back to Eveshi directly. If you take the goods and the list back to Eveshi you can skip to the next section. However, if you decide to see the culprit first...

Talen-Ei, in the lower hold of the ship, will admit to the deed, but only if you have the stolen goods in hand or have gotten a confession from Ju-Ril. He then offers an explanation for his actions, indicating that Eveshi was again correct in her thoughts about the complicated nature of the situation. Talen-Ei will then give you directions to where the stolen goods are if you haven't already found them, and leaves his fate in your hands.

All's Well That Ends Well, Or Does It?[edit]

Tell Eveshi who the culprit is, and hand over the stolen items if you picked them up. She has one more thing for you to do: to deliver a note indicating the situation being settled to Diranya. Diranya is Indoril Ilvi's Altmer steward, and someone Eveshi answers to. Give the note to Diranya. She'll accept the letter, express some agitation over the handling of matters and then dismisses you. Going back to Eveshi to report the letter delivery, you'll find out that someone informed the guards about the series of thefts and Talen-Ei has been taken away. Eveshi says there's nothing else to be done, and thanks you for your efforts with some scrolls, and her disposition is also raised.

If you ask Diranya what will happen to Talen-Ei, she'll say it hasn't been decided yet and to ask again the next day. When you do, she'll tell you that Indoril Ilvi himself directed the punishment: to make a pilgrimage on their knees to Saint Aralor's shring in Serynthul, just like the saint himself once did. Telling Eveshi the news elicits gladness, with Ju-Ril and Wishes-For-Night having mixed reactions. Check back a week later, and you'll find Talen-Ei will be back, and will share his pilgrimage experience with you. Ju-Ril and Wishes-For-Night have new dialog as well, and Eveshi will sound relieved for his return.

Notes[edit]

  • If you find the sack of stolen goods before initiating the quest it doesn't affect Eveshi's interaction with you.
  • You have the option to bring up the delicate problem topic with Diranya, it leads to Eveshi being upset with you.
  • Far-Scales, one of the Argonian slaves on the dock, will not have anything to say to you throughout this quest.
