Fa-Nuit-Hen

Fa-Nuit-Hen is a Daedric Demiprince and the Multiplier of Motions Known. He is a highly skilled fighter that takes the form of a demonic Bosmer, due to them being nimble and making for a smaller target.

He seeks to recuperate his Barons Who Move Like This, the Daedra that designed his Maelstrom Arena and in the process became part of it. Due to his poor memory, he has his tutor, Riparius, to assist him in remembering things and writes down his experiences in books.

Maelstrom Arena[edit]

As you approach the building containing the arena portal, you will hear Tutor Riparius and Fa-Nuit-Hen converse:

Tutor Riparius: "Here comes a likely candidate now."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Do you suppose this one has what it takes?"
Tutor Riparius: "Contain your hopes. But let's find out."

Fa-Nuit-Hen can then be spoken to start the Maelstrom Arena.

"I've been wondering when you would show up on my doorstep. I've been following your progress for some time, and with great interest.
You show promise. I know talent when I see it. Are you interested in challenging yourself… to the utmost?"
What do you mean?
"I'm a connoisseur of battle, so I keep track of likely recruits. Your reputation precedes you.
I've converted my realm into an arena where I plan to train the greatest warriors in the Aurbis. I offer you an opportunity to take my arena challenge."
How do I win?
"The rules are simple: win or die. Enter each arena, defeat all opponents, then move on to the next.
Survive them all, and I'll offer you a place in my officer corps. So―interested? Or would you rather return to Tamriel and fight mudcrabs?"
I accept your challenge.

After accepting the challenge, the Demiprince can be asked some questions about the arena and himself.

"Very well, then! Let's see how long you can last.
Give us a good show, won't you?"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"It's called the Vale of the Surreal. The Baron who Moves like a Shivering Droplet served the Mad God for a time, and that's where he got the idea.
I've never liked this arena. Too uncanny. But I miss my baron. Win him back for me!"
What more can you tell me about yourself?
"I'm a collector of martial styles, a combat connoisseur, arms trainer to the great and lofty!
I've decided to train an army of my own, so I asked each of my Barons Who Moves Like This to build me a deadly training arena. And so they did!"

Arena Dialogue[edit]

After completing the arenas, you have the option of asking him further questions about the upcoming arena, his Barons and his future goals.

Vale of the Surreal[edit]

"Hmm. The surreality didn't affect you at all.
Have you met Uncle Sheo? That would explain it!"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
Seht's Balcony! It was designed by the Baron Who Moves Like a Dancer's Hips after spending a season with the Mechanist.
Beware the whirling blades! They move just like … just like … oh, you know what I mean. Don't you?"
Who are these Barons Who Move Like... what is it?
"The Barons Who Move Like This! My Daedric Conflict Resolution Coaches, each specializing in a different kind of mayhem!
They threw themselves so far into the task of creating my arenas, that each was… absorbed… into the final creation."

Seht's Balcony[edit]

"Well done. I can see you're no stranger to clockwork opponents. You're good.
Unless it was beginner's luck.
"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
It's the Drome of Toxic Shock! The Baron who Moves like Wind in the Reeds really poured his heart into this one. Curious that such a gentle soul should create an arena as lethal as this one.
Triumph here, challenger, and restore my baron to me."
So where are these barons of yours now?
"Gone! Trying to outdo each other, they put so much essence and animus into creating their arenas, that they discorporated!
Now, I have only the arenas to remember them by. And the memory grows… hazy. But no matter!"

Drome of Toxic Shock[edit]

"I lost a wager there by putting my money on the Lamia Queen. She's never failed before.
It might be time to start betting on you, instead."
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"Ah, that will be Seht's Flywheel. It was built by the Baron Who Moves Like Heat Lightning.
We visited the Clockwork City, of course, and he based his design on that. I can almost visualize this baron in a chamber of pistons … no, it's gone."
Why do you need training arenas?
"Training warriors and heroes is fun, but it looks like even more fun to have your own army! We could be interplanar mercenaries!
I'd really hoped to have my cohorts led by the Barons Who Move Like This. But watching you in action gives me ideas…"

Seht's Flywheel[edit]

"That giant clockwork spider made a terrible pet, so I put it on arena duty. I won't do that again.
Live and learn, eh?"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"You've reached the Rink of Frozen Blood. It was the masterpiece of the Baron who Moves like Sunlight on Waves.
I'm beginning to hope, you know. That you'll be able to succeed, to return my barons to me. Is it a mistake for a Daedra to hope?"
Are these barons of yours gone for good?
"They are. They are.
Or… or maybe they're not! When I see you fighting in an arena, I can almost remember the baron who made it. To defeat an arena, you almost have to become its creator, and then, for me, that baron lives again! Briefly."

Rink of Frozen Blood[edit]

"You know, I thought those giants would give you a harder time. But I tend to overestimate the tall.
Tutor, make a note: need more giants."
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"The Spiral Shadows, an arena inspired by Mephala's realm! Its architect was The Baron Who Moves Like Flickering Flame.
I think he might have been one of my favorites. I remember watching him for hours. Or do I just … remember remembering that?"
Can my victory in an arena help you recall the baron who created it?
"It seems so! And if I can remember them clearly…
Well. I am the Demiprince of Maelstrom, my own Oblivion realm. Anything I can envision, I can bring to reality! That is, if I can envision it clearly enough. Keep winning, challenger!"

The Spiral Shadows[edit]

"We brought in some very nasty opponents from the Spiral Skein, but you handled them well.
Let's see how far you can go!"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"This one is the Vault of Umbrage. It was hand-carved by the Baron who Moves like a Wary Moth.
You … you can do this, can't you? You can actually do this, and my barons will be restored to me!"
What will happen if I beat all your arenas?
"I believe I will be able to see all my barons clearly, in my mind's eye! And what I can see clearly, I can make reality. At least here.
The Barons Who Move Like This will return. And I… I shall be the Multiplier of Motions Known!"

Vault of Umbrage[edit]

"The way you defeated those Argonians was so … baronial! Almost balletic, really, a joy to watch!
Ready for more?"
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"You've been lucky, indeed you have, but I fear your run ends here. This is the Igneous Cistern, devised by the great Baron who Moves like a Torrent in Spate.
I shall never see his like again, challenger. For here you will die."
Is it working? When I win, can you envision your barons?
"More and more! If you defeat all my arenas, I believe I will actually be able to restore them!
Continue, challenger. Earn the gratitude of Fa-Nuit-Hen. You mustn't give up now!"

Igneous Cistern[edit]

"Well, so much for Valkyn Tephra.
You move more and more like my barons. I can almost envision them …."
What can you tell me about the next arena?
"The Baron who Moves like a Smoking Plume was a great admirer of Mehrunes Dagon. I think you'll see that in his Theater of Despair.
I've never been one to despair, but I've missed my barons so, I was almost ready to succumb. I'm glad I didn't."
Who will command this army you plan to train?
"With my barons gone, I thought I might collect great warriors like you, enthrall them, and make them command my cohorts for all eternity.
But maybe, with your help, I can restore my barons. Then they will serve as the officers of my army!"
You say you were aware of me before I came here?
"I keep a close watch on events in the great arena of Tamriel. Occasionally I even visit your world.
In fact, my barons and I even made the acquaintance of Vivec in his youth. Showed him a few things. I think it made an impression."

Theater of Despair[edit]

Upon completing the Theater of Despair, you enter a portal which returns you to the Maelstrom Arena.

"That's a relief. I really thought that might be the arena that would break you. But you did it!"
What happens now?
"You've revived my memories of Barons Who Move Like This! I must go and re-corporate them while the memories are still fresh. Then, we shall begin to conquer the Aurbis! Oh! And thank you. Please accept an award appropriate to your station."
Fa-Nuit-Hen summons the Baron

After talking to Fa-Nuit-Hen and completing the quest, he begins to cast a spell and the Baron Moves-Like-a-Smoking-Plume emerges from a sigil in the ground of the Redguard manor:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "And now, it's time for my Barons to return to me!
Stand back, I haven't done this in quite some time. I'd hate to turn you inside-out.
Baron Who Moves Like a Smoking Plume, I summon you! Return to me!"
<The baron rises from the ground>
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Approach me, my baron! Let me get a good look at you!
You look splendid, simply splendid."
Baron Moves-Like-a-Smoking-Plume: "It is good to be with you again, my prince."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "And you! Your assistance has been most satisfactory. I won't forget it.
Or, anyway, my tutor won't forget it."

When you speak to him after he summons the Baron:

"You're welcome to return here any time. Another exhibition of your combat skills can only benefit my minions.
Until then, remember to Move Like This!"
What will you do now that your Baron has returned?
"We shall build my Maelstrom Army, and make it a force to be feared in every corner of Oblivion!"

Combat Commentary[edit]

Fa-Nuit-Hen will sometimes say unique introductions to the various arenas:

Vale of the Surreal
"And now, dance! Dance around the Tree of Death!"
Seht's Balcony
"We have a challenger! Activate the automata!"
(?)
Drome of Toxic Shock
Seht's Flywheel
"Will they attack from in front, or behind! Spin like the flywheel!"
"Careful! It's not all clanking clockworks, you know!"
Rink of Frozen Blood
"Come in, challenger! Are you shivering yet?"
"All right, let's get frosty here!"
Spiral Shadows
"And now—everything that wriggles and writhes!"
"Prepare them, those gross creatures! You know the ones I mean!"
"Remember: no mercy, no quarter!"
Vault of Umbrage
"Poison and venom, toxin and tentacles!"
"Do you like lizards, challenger? Watch the shadows!"
"Argonians aplenty in the Vault of Umbrage!"
Igneous Cistern
"Now, meet the cleansing flame of the Igneous Cistern!"
"This will be hot! Pun entirely intended."
Theater of Despair
"Don't succumb to the Theater of Despair! Fight, and fight fiercely!"
"Now you will be tested as never before! Begin!"
Unsorted
"A challenger approaches! Prepare the monstrosities!"
"Bob and weave for us! Strike, thrust, parry, and strike again!"
"What surprises have we this time? Let's see!"

During fights in the various arenas, Fa-Nuit-Hen will be on the audience commentating on the battle.

"Isn't this great? You know you love it!"
"Ah! Nothing's better than a good bloodsport!"
"Sanguine's red hat! What a blow!"
"That was some move! Now do it again!"
"That's one where it counts!"
"The Maelstrom Arena! There's nothing like it in all Oblivion!"
"See, my minions! This is how it's done!"
"A hit, a palpable hit!"
"Ah, violence! It's just like a ballet, only with blood!"
"Oh! Such brutality!"
"That does it! This is all but over."
"Now that's what we're here to see!"
"Ouch! Time for somebody to start making out a will."
"There! That's how it's done!"
"Isn't this great? You know you love it!"
"Oh! I've never seen anything like this!"
"Savage and merciless! Yes, indeed!"
"This combatant can't take much more of that!"
"That's going to leave a scar!"
"That's what we want! Keep it up!"
"Did you see that? That's action!"
"Uh-oh! This can't last much longer!"

After completing a round and starting the next he may say one of the following:

"You've done well so far! Now, however...."
"Now for a real challenge!"
"What next? I love the anticipation!"
"Watch! The climax approaches!" (Final Round)
"Ha ha! Wait till you see what's coming next!"
"Behold! Vile monstrosities, imported for your entertainment!"
"Watch! Now we'll see some real action!"
"So far, so good—but the worst is yet to come!"
"I felt that one all the way up here!"
"Well fought...but now things get serious!"
"Now it comes! I've been waiting for this!"
"Your run of good luck is about to end!"
"Pay attention, you louts! You might learn something."
"You've beaten the odds so far! Now it changes."
"This next bout should be memorable."
"The challenger approaches! Release the defenders!"
"You wanted a fight. Now you'll get one!"

When you die and resurrect yourself in the arena, Fa-Nuit-Hen will say:

"It looks like ... yes, the challenger is trying again!"
"And now, another attempt!"
"Pay attention, you louts! You might learn something."
"Let's hope that this time it's more of a contest!"
"Pay attention, you Daedra―it's never the same twice!"
"Don't succumb to the Theater of Despair! Fight, and fight fiercely!" (In the ninth round, also said as an introduction.)
"You've entered the ring! We've prepared a gigantic welcome for you!"

When you defeat the final boss:

"There's no doubt who won that one! Well fought!"
"And the challenger is the clear victor!"
"The challenger succeeds! We have a winner!"
"The challenger wins! That was one for the record books."
"Another thrilling match! I'm sorry it's over."
"The challenger is triumphant!"
"Victory!"
"We have a victor!"
"And that's how it's done! Well played!"
"The challenger wins! What an exciting bout!"

The Forgotten Vault[edit]

You'll enter the Bedlam Veil to find it under siege.

Tutor Riparius: "You haven't made up your mind about this army, master. Why send an invitation?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I didn't invite them. They're invading."
Blind Path Champion: "Forward!"
<The Blind Path cultists disappear in a flash of golden light, leaving a trail of magic behind them in their wake.>
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "It'd be a shame to waste this glorious opportunity. Ah, you'll do nicely."

Speak with Fa to begin the quest.

If you've completed Maelstrom Arena:
If you've never run Maelstrom Arena before:
"You. You emerged victorious from my arena challenges!
The Blind and her army of cultists are here. I was just thinking about how to best deal with them, but I believe you're the answer I was looking for."
"I know you, mortal. I followed your exploits and your fighting style is intriguing!
The Blind and her army of Blind Path cultists are here. I could easily deal with them, of course, but I'm curious. Are you interested in helping me?"
[verification needed — see talk page]
Do you know why the Blind Path are invading?
"I'd prefer the Blind Path invaded the arenas of Maelstrom. Then I could really test their strength.
Bedlam Veil isn't equipped to host combat. It houses my trinkets—small mementos of war and glorious memories which are best left undisturbed."
Do you think the Blind Path are here for one of your trinkets?
"It's probable. But no one invades my realm and takes my spoils of combat. If you can stop the Blind from taking whatever it is she's after, I will reward you.
Do we have a deal?"
All right, I'll stop the Blind and her Blind Path army.

You can ask them a few questions before progressing.

"I stored weapons beyond your comprehension in Bedlam Veil.
If you want to keep your appendages where they are, don't touch anything you don't recognize. You'll need your limbs intact to defeat the Blind and her cultists."
What sort of weapons are stored here?
"Only the most awe-inspiring, unique, and renowned objects of war from across Oblivion. There are exceptions, but those are hardly worth discussing.
I don't keep my trinkets in the Foundation Core, though. My treasures are in the subsequent rooms."
What's the Foundation Core?
"Look around you. This is the Foundation Core!
It's a repository for the unused creatia of my realm. This untapped material could eventually become the next battlefield in my glorious arena challenges!"
Why are you here instead of the Maelstrom Arena?
"To see what was causing all this disturbance. Bedlam Veil is a portion of my realm. Nothing happens here without my knowledge.
The arena challenges are fascinating, but I couldn't give up the chance to watch this invasion."
How are the arena challenges going?
"They're going well! Few victors, but that's the nature of the arena challenges.
You're welcome to try your hand at them again. See if your past performance was a matter of skill or luck."
How is your Maelstrom Army Initiative?
"I'm amassing a suitable number of soldiers.
The issue with having an army is that you need someone to fight, but invading another realm takes too much effort. Maybe I'll just have them fight each other."

As you approach the arena where you'll face the Shattered Champion, you'll hear the Blind summoning it:

The Blind: "Ah, my generous host. I brought you a gift. You'll enjoy watching it fight."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "You're not going to let something as simple as an Atronach stand between you and the Blind, are you?"

If you idle before fighting it:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Tutor, have we seen this tactic before? I doubt other warriors take this long to prepare."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Are you going to fight the Atronach from up here? Then what are you waiting for?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I'll wait to be impressed by this gift until you fight it."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Ah yes, studying your opponent. Not a strategy that guarantees success."

When combat begins:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "This is so exciting!"

When the atronach summons allies:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "There're more enemies now."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Which enemy will you focus on?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "More enemies means more things to fight."

Once the boss' health reaches 70%:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "The fight is going rather well."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "It moves so quickly!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Wonder where it went."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Watch your back!"

At 45% health:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I thought the Atronach would've shattered by now."

If you stand in the glass:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Try not to get hit."

As its health falls to 5%:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "They're winning, Tutor!"

After the Shattered Champion is felled:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Tutor, take note. We need to acquire one of these shiny Atronachs."
Tutor Riparius: "The Blind, master. Has she gotten far?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "She's in the first room. I don't think she expected the hall to give her a taste of my arenas."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Enjoy the Hall of Barons. You'll love it!"

You can speak to Fa-Nuit-Hen before heading inside the hall.

"Ah, the Hall of Barons. I usually content myself with appreciating my barons' work in the arenas, but the hall is magnificent too.
Still, I don't dwell on the past. My arena challenges require much of my focus."
What's the Hall of Barons?
"A series of rooms dedicated to immortalizing my Barons Who Move Like This. They were amazing creations and incredible warriors who gave their essence to my arena challenges. Such impeccable theaters of war should be celebrated."
Why make replicas of your arena challenges if the arenas are still in your realm?
"These weren't built for combat, though you may still fight in them.
It was my tutor's idea. I needed a place to remember what I could of my barons without getting distracted by the majesty of the arenas. This was the compromise."
It sounded like the Blind knew you.
"This is my realm. If you're going to invade a place, you should know who's in charge of it.
Still, she surprised me with that Atronach. In all the time I watched her and her cult army, I never saw her summon anything."
Could the Blind be looking for something within the Hall of Barons?
"It's unlikely, unless the Blind is after my lost barons. The Hall of Barons contains treasured memories of mine, but nothing the Blind would find useful.
No, there is one door deeper into the veil. That's where you'll find the Blind."

You'll find Fa and their tutor at every dead end within the Hall of Barons.

At the southernmost end of the first hallway
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "My Barons who Move Like This fought the air here. It was invigorating!"
South of the room with the daedroth
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Is this part of your cunning strategy? Finding locations with interesting vistas to admire?"
West of the wamasu room
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I believe this is my favorite dead end, tutor."

If you speak to the demiprince at any of these dead ends, they'll say one of the following:

"Can you feel that? That's the swell of potential just waiting to be converted to something useful. It's an excellent feeling!
Sometimes I stare out at the limitless possibilities of Maelstrom and revel in its power."
"All this unoccupied space is intentionally left empty. Now, I can create memorials to the Barons I lose in the future and to those who I do not even remember forgetting now.
This area is satisfactory. I wouldn't complain about more traps though!"
"The only thing waiting this way is a long drop and an impeccable view. Not sure which one is more dangerous.
You could test it and see which one kills you faster, but then you wouldn't stop the Blind."
"Look around you. This is an exceptional memorial to my Barons who Move Like This!"
"The Blind can't appreciate the majesty of the Hall of Barons, that much is clear. But you stopped to see what's here. Curious."

Fa and their tutor appear in the next major chamber, the Skyvault Foyer, where the Darkshard awaits combat:

The Blind: "Take care of this annoying cur! The Echonir awaits."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Take notes, Tutor!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "It's been inspired by my arenas!"

If you idle before fighting the Darkshard:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Don't hold off on my account. Every moment you spend here only gives the Blind more time."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "What do you think they're waiting for, Tutor? The Darkshard isn't going to flinch."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "What's behind the Darkshard? Is that a Maxus clone? I'm intrigued."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I've never been affected by a Mind Terror. I wonder, will it affect you?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "This is a Mind Terror. I'd tell you what they're capable of, but you'll see soon enough."

Combat begins:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Let the battle commence!"

When Maxus the Many is summoned:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Is this really Maxus, or one of his copies?"

After Maxus is defeated:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Don't worry, warriors. We see your efforts!"

When the Champion of Atrocity is summoned:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I missed the sound of those skittering feet!"

When the Argonian Behemoth is summoned:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "This fight needed more poison."

If your group wipes to the Darkshard:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Don't give up. You were so close to hitting the Darkshard."

After the Darkshard is felled:

Tutor Riparius: "The Echonir is at the back of the Skyvault, master. The Blind won't get it quickly."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I'm sure our champion is ready to hunt the Blind regardless of how far into the Skyvault she gets."

If you speak to Fa-Nuit-Hen before continuing on:

"The Blind is after the Echonir? Why?"
What's the Echonir?
"It displays memories. Useless in combat unless you plan on bashing it over your enemy's head. Still, I kept the Echonir safe for eons. The Blind won't take it easily."
Why do you say that?
"The valuables inside my Skyvault are safely locked away. With enough force, the Blind and her cultists could break through those locks, but that will take time. You should have plenty of opportunities to stop her before she gets to the Echonir."
What can you tell me about the Skyvault?
"It's where I keep most of the items in Bedlam Veil. Don't worry, you won't find anything too dangerous just lying around. Probably. Most of the valuables in there are locked away behind barriers."
What sort of barriers?
"Some are magical, others more traditional lock and key contraptions. Why? Are you thinking of robbing me? It'd be exciting to watch you try."

As you progress further, Fa-Nuit-Hen will comment:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Look, tutor! So that's where I put Ukhelzal's head. I expected the Ashpit's champion to last longer."
Tutor Riparius: "Very good master. I'll make a note."

In this section of Bedlam Veil, you will come across the lock puzzles:

As you approach the first lock puzzle:

Tutor Riparius: "That's one of your treasured trinkets, master. Should we tell the champions not to touch it?"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Why not give them the chance? It will be a good test of the locks and my hints!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Of course the Blind Path couldn't get past my locks. Even I had to leave myself hints!"

If the first lock puzzle is solved:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "The lock's open! Claim your prize. It'll help you in the future. Anything else up there is yours as well."

As you approach the second lock puzzle:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "I locked up this treasure and forgot about it. Maybe I'll remember what it is when you free it."

If the second lock puzzle is solved:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "That didn't look too difficult. Feel free to claim the treasure for yourself and use it against the Blind."

As you approach the third lock puzzle:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "This is the most fiendish lock built to hold a very powerful trinket. Think you can unlock it?"

If the third lock puzzle is solved:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Oh, this is one of my favorite pieces. Use it in the fight against the Blind, you'll see why. And don't forget to collect your spoils."

If you fail at the puzzles:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Should have picked the other one."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Maybe … no."

As you approach where the Echonir is in the Skyvault:

Tutor Riparius: "The Echonir is just up ahead."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "There's something I'm supposed to do with it, but I can't quite remember what."

When you reach the Blind, Fa-Nuit-Hen will tell her she has bitten off more than she can chew:

The Blind: "My preparations are complete. The barrier will crumble and I will take the Echonir for my Prince!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "You think you're getting the Echonir without a fight? In my realm?"
The Blind: "You will regret getting in my way!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Two great combatants meet at last!"
The Blind: "You insist on dying for that fool's amusement?"
The Blind: "Die already!"
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "And you insist on dying for an impossible cause."

Once you have slain the Blind, Fa-Nuit-Hen will congratulate you on your victory:

Fa-Nuit-Hen: "That was … incredible! I couldn't take my eyes off your fight. You deserve recognition for that."

You can then speak with Fa-Nuit-Hen to complete the quest:

"That was one of the most entertaining series of fights I had the opportunity to watch in a long time.
Because of your actions, my promise to Hermaeus Mora is fulfilled. The Echonir is safe thanks to you."
The Blind was willing to die to get the Echonir, it must've been useful to her.
"Normally, I wouldn't bother with the Echonir, but I am intrigued. I may need to look into this trinket more.
You won't get anything from the Great Eye for protecting the Echonir, but take this."

With the quest completed, you can ask him some more questions about what has happened:

"There are so many questions still unanswered about the Echonir and about the Blind.
The invasion was just the start. There is something more going on here. This is delightfully interesting!"
How will things be interesting?
"The Blind's enemies need the Echonir and I just might give it to them. There's a peculiar sensation in the air. We are in a time of great upheaval and I'm curious to see how it will resolve.
But that is excitement to look forward to."
Who are the Blind's enemies?
"There's an unusually well-informed High Elf. She'll know what to do with the Echonir.
I try not to relinquish the objects entrusted to me to anyone apart from the original owners, but this Elf is tied to the Great Eye."

Afterwards Fa-Nuit-Hen and Tutor Riparius will climb the nearby stairs to where the Echonir sits on a plinth:

Tutor Riparius: "Master, may I remind you that that is an item of great power."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "It's a petrified eye, tutor. I want to see what memories it holds."
<Fa-Nuit-Hen attepts to use the Echonir.>
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Hmm. Well, this is peculiar. The Echonir can't stay here, but I know who it should go to."

You can speak with him again, and you will have a new option to ask about the Echonir:

What did the Echonir show you?
"It reminded me of the Prince of Forbidden Knowledge's plan. He asked me to return the Echonir to one of his mortal underlings when the time came.
Funny. I forgot about that conversation until just now."
Leramil the Wise? (If you met her previously)
"Is that her name? It didn't come up in the memory. Blond? Sharp eyes?
Well, you just saved me the trouble of searching for her. Still, I'll need to track her down. I'm sure I'll get around to that soon."

Prisoner of Fate[edit]

After receiving word from Leramil the Wise to meet with her at one of the Outlaw Refuges, you will find her with two companions, King Bazrag and Fa-Nuit-Hen. They will be in conversation with each other:

Leramil the Wise: "Thank you for bringing the Echonir. We will need this relic."
King Bazrag: "Speaking of relics, thieves stole an old staff from the Oathsworn Pit. I want to know why."
Fa-Nuit-Hen: "Indeed. How did my unwelcome guests find their way to Bedlam Veil? I am … curious."
King Bazrag: "Good Orcs died, little prince. I'm not curious. I'm angry."

You have the option of speaking with him before Leramil, his dialogue will differ if you met him previously and if you have completed Bedlam Veil [verification needed — see talk page]:

Completed the Bedlam Veil:
Met Fa-Nuit-Hen, not completed Bedlam Veil:
First time meeting:
"You are one of the more interesting mortals I've run across in the last century or two. First you help me chase the Blind Path out of Maelstrom, and now you turn up here?
Clearly, the Echonir was more important than I thought."
"Why, it's my favorite challenger! I shouldn't be surprised. Hermaeus Mora fancies himself the Gardener of Men. He, too, recognizes talent.
I admit, I never gave the Echonir a second look. Perhaps it was more important than I thought."
"Someone went to great lengths to examine the Echonir. Strange—I never gave that dusty old relic a second look. Clearly it was more important than I thought.
A problem for Hermaeus Mora and Leramil now, I suppose."
What exactly happened in Bedlam Veil?
"Some impertinent fool calling herself the Blind thought I wouldn't mind if she and her little band of cultists came to Maelstrom and rooted through my collection of trinkets. I gather they were looking for the Echonir."
The Echonir?
"A large petrified eyeball excreted by Hermaeus Mora himself. I've had it since I don't know when. I used it as a paperweight, but it seems Mora had a purpose for the Echonir all along.
Well. It was boring and I'm happy to be rid of it."
Completed Maelstrom Arena:
First time meeting:
I didn't expect to find you here.
"Nor did I expect to find you. As always, it is a surprise and a delight, dear mortal. Interesting things happen whenever you're around.
To answer your unspoken question, I am here on family business … so to speak."
Family business?
"Hermaeus Mora rarely asks anything of me, and I have little use for heaps of obscure tomes. Yet he is scrupulous about paying his debts. I am doing him a small favor, and now he owes me.
One never knows when that might prove useful."
I don't think we have met before.
"You may not know me, mortal, but I know you. I am an admirer of your work. I am Fa-Nuit-Hen, the Demiprince of Maelstrom. From time to time, I reproach the spirits of warriors who fall without knowing why.
Some of them lost to you."
You're a Daedric Prince?
"Oh, not this tiresome conversation again.
,If you must put a name to it, I am a demiprince. A scion of Boethiah and patron to all who seek to excel in combat. Have no fear, though. We will not cross blades before you are ready."

After you have spoken with Leramil, she will open some portals leading to places around Tamriel to investigate. Speaking with Fa-Nuit-Hen before you leave:

"A forgotten Daedric Prince? Surely there is some mistake. I know nothing of any missing Princes, and I can assure you I am in a position to know. Unless I was made to forget, as well?
An intriguing mystery. Good luck, mortal."

System Mail[edit]

Fa-Nuit-Hen will send you a letter congratulating you for achieving a weekly leaderboard spot for Veteran Maelstrom Arena. In the author line, he is called Demiprince Fa-Nuit-Hen.
